26/11/2013 Podcast reading of Jonathan Stroud's Halloween Lockwood story Dagger in the Desk on Guardian Books

Click here to listen to Jonathan Stroud reading Dagger in the Desk, the Halloween Lockwood & Co story he wrote especially for the Guardian Books website. He wrote the story during the week leading up to Halloween, with the readers contibuting to the plot and title, and now he's recorded a reading of the story in full!
8/11/2013 Emma Chichester Clark joins Michael Morpurgo at Festival of Children's Literature in Birmingham

Tomorrow, Saturday 9th November sees Emma Chichester Clark and Michael Morpurgo take to the stage at The Box in Birmingham to speak about their individual work, and of course joint publications such as the new PINOCCHIO. More information here.
31/10/2013 Congratulations to Niki Daly who is nominated for the 2014 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

Niki Daly has been nominated for the prestigious award for his work as an Illustrator, Oral Story Teller and Promoter of Reading. The winner will be announced on 25th March, with a live broadcast to the Bologna Children's Book Fair.

31/10/2013 Final Part of Jonathan Stroud's Online Lockwood Halloween Special is available today.

Today Jonathan completed his interactive Lockwood story, which has been published in instalments on the Guardian Children's Books website for the past six days. Readers have been controlling team Lockwood & Co's fate by voting on how the next day's episode will begin. The final part 6 can be found here, along with a link to the earlier parts.

7/10/2013 Special LOCKWOOD & CO Halloween story with Guardian Children's Books.

This week readers have the opportunity to vote in suggestions for a spooky interactive Lockwood & Co story written by Jonathan especially for Halloween. The story will be published in instalments over 6 days on the Guardian website, with the last on 31st October.

5/9/2013 Launch night party for Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood & Co.

Last night saw the launch of Jonathan's new Lockwood & Co series, as the UK publication of Book I: THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE was celebrated with a suitably spooky party.

Guests drank Bloody Marys in a haunted London pub and tucked into a special Lockwood cake.
26/7/2013 THE HOP, written by Sharelle Byars Moranville and illustrated by Niki Daly wins the Green Prize for Sustainable Literature in Youth Fiction category.

The book has been awarded the prize by the Sustainable Literature Committee, which is based in Santa Monica, California, with an event to be held on 12th September. Click here for more information on the committee and its awards.
18/7/2013 Dianne Hofmeyr's THE MAGIC BOJABI TREE named in Independent's Top Reads

This Sunday 21st July, THE MAGIC BOJABI TREE by Dianne Hofmeyr and illustrated by Piet Grobler will be featured on the Independent on Sunday's Top Ten reads for children aged 6 - 10 years. The book is out now, published by Frances Lincoln.

21/6/2013 ISLANDS OF CHALDEA, a new Diana Wynne Jones book, completed by Sister Ursula Jones to be published next Spring

We're delighted to announce that there will be a new Diana Wynne Jones book published in Spring next year, called ISLANDS OF CHALDEA!

The book, left unfinished by Diana, has been completed by her sister Ursula Jones, who is a successful children's author and actress in her own right.

ISLANDS OF CHALDEA will be published by Greenwillow in the US, and HarperCollins Children's Books in the UK.

20/5/2013 Sarah Garland to appear at the Cirencester Literary Festival

This year will see the first ever Cirencester Children's Literary Festival take place at Octavia's Bookshop's and The Cirencester Bingham Library from 12 - 17th August. Sarah will be at the festival on Friday 16th August to give a talk and get involved with various activities in the LIbrary, and she'll also be signing copies of her books.

Congratluations to Theresa Breslin who has been identified as a Great Scot by Education Scotland's Literacy Team. The project has seen each curricular choose a Scot who is relevant to the area and who has been inspirational in their career.
13/5/2013 Sarah Garland wins Little Rebels Award for AZZI IN BETWEEN!

Sarah Garland's book on a refugee girl coming to England won the award given by the Radical Booksellers Alliance. The winner was announced on Saturday, 11th May at the London Radical Bookfair, where Sarah accepted her award and spoke about what inspired her to write AZZI IN BETWEEN. The Little Rebels Award was created in 2012 to recognise radical publishing for children in the UK.
