Ann Lawrence was born in England in l942. She wrote more than fifteen highly original fantasy novels and collections of stories for children, including THE HAWK OF MAY, which was highly commended for the Guardian Award.

Since her tragically early death her work has continued to gain in reputation and has been published in the USA, Sweden and Japan.

“The death of Anne Lawrence in 1987 has deprived the
children’s book world of a significant writer. If her books had
a common theme, it was the variety of human nature...
Lawrence’s writing had a quiet, subtle excellence...her books
were more truly original and thought-provoking than those
of other better-known writers.”
