“The death of Anne Lawrence in 1987 has deprived the children’s book world of a significant writer. If her books had a common theme, it was the variety of human nature...Lawrence’s writing had a quiet, subtle excellence...her books were more truly original and thought-provoking than those of other better-known writers.”
