THE MRS MARRIDGE PROJECT by Pauline Fisk

Age range: 12 plus

'Halfway through my sister's best friend's funeral, I decided to get married.
I knew I wasn't old enough, but life felt too short to hang about. You took a breath and it was over, and you'd never done a thing you wanted. Lucy Chan never got a single benefit from her years of studying for University. She was dead before she got there.'

14 year old Elin feels under pressure from her parents to succeed,
especially Mum who regrets her own lack of education. In rebellion she secretly decides that her “career” when she leaves school is to get married. She conceals her plan by starting“The Mrs Marridge project” which her parents imagine is part of her school work.

Her “research” leads to hilarious misunderstandings as she tries to find out about dating, domestic life and what makes husbands tick. But things take a more worrying turn when Elin gets engaged on the Internet.

In this wry comedy Pauline Fisk questions the many influences girls come under today, from achieving Cover Girl looks, to exam success, to finding the perfect relationship.
